We are an experienced all-female team of specialist physiotherapists. We help educate in the prevention of pelvic health problems and help treat those with symptoms of a pelvic floor dysfunction. These symptoms may include problems with your bladder, bowel or sexual dysfunction (including pain with sex or lack of sensation).
We also treat pregnant people suffering from pain in their pregnancy, offering advice, support and treatment adapted to your needs.
Occasionally, we may have students or other physiotherapists observing our work. You will always be asked for your consent before involving another person in your care. You are in no way obliged to have anyone else involved in or observing your care.
At your appointment, we will ask you to remove some of your clothing to be able to see and assess the painful area. This will allow us to make a better decision about the source of your symptoms and help us provide better treatment.
You can wear shorts and a vest top if you find this more comfortable than being examined in your underwear.
We will discuss a treatment plan and goals with you to help you find the best way to manage your symptoms. This will include advice and appropriate exercises.
Other treatments may include manual therapy, hydrotherapy, exercise classes, support belts and crutches, depending on your needs.
Many pelvic floor-related problems are treatable or manageable with physiotherapy. We aim to help you improve and manage your symptoms through a range of treatment options, including exercises and advice.
Your first appointment will be up to an hour long and involve taking a detailed history of your symptoms and medical, urological, gynaecological and obstetric history.
We will offer you an internal examination on your first or subsequent appointment to help our assessment and treatment planning. Your physiotherapist will explain what this involves and ask for your consent.
We can also provide a chaperone if you wish. You are free to decline this part of the assessment.
We aim to provide you with the best treatment possible, and this may mean that occasionally, we will need to refer you for a further specialist opinion.
Please let us know if you require an interpreter, which language and whether you would prefer a male or female interpreter. We will do our best to make sure we have the appropriate interpreter for your appointments. We strongly advise against using family members or friends to interpret.
After your first appointment, any follow-up appointments will be booked by your physiotherapist or the admin team. Please give us as much notice as possible if you are unable to attend. If you do not attend without prior warning, you will be discharged. If you repeatedly cancel your appointments, your physiotherapist has the right to discharge you.
If travelling by car, please allow plenty of time to find a parking space.
It's important to continue taking any medication prescribed unless your GP/specialist specifically tells you to stop. Please visit our Existing Health Conditions page for more information, or visit 'Bumps' ('Best Use of Medicines in Pregnancy').
