In just a few short weeks, on May 5th, the world will come together to celebrate a truly vital profession: midwifery. The International Day of the Midwife is a globally recognized occasion to honour the incredible dedication, skill, and compassion of midwives everywhere. Established by the International Confederation of Midwives (ICM) and observed by over 50 nations, this annual event shines a spotlight on the crucial role midwives play in the health and well-being of women and their newborns throughout pregnancy, childbirth, and beyond.
This theme highlights the essential role of midwives in supporting women, girls, and gender-diverse people during humanitarian crises, natural disasters, and conflicts, where they face heightened risks and limited access to essential health services.
